5 Natural Ways to Stop Sweating
Heavy sweating is a condition known also as hyperhidrosis. While sweating is a normal and healthy bodily function that helps the body regulate your temperature and eliminate water, hyperhidrosis can be the cause of an underlying health condition (i.e., thyroid or hormonal) and result in much physical and mental stress for the patient. Hyperhidrosis can also be quite embarrassing, and it may hinder patients from daily activities and routines, and cause severe social withdrawal.
If you have talked to your doctor about hyperhidrosis and tried many products to reduce sweating, you may be willing to attempt these natural options:
1. Lemon
Lemons contain citric acid, which kills bacteria, and they can reduce excessive sweating. Lemons have a clean and fresh scent. To use, simply, slice the lemon then squeeze and rub it on your clean underarms.
2. Baking Soda
Baking soda can help fight body odor and sweating. It is alkaline, and it helps your body balance its pH levels. Just combine it with water and scented oils if you prefer and it keeps you fresh all day. If you prefer to create an antiperspirant, simply combine the following ingredients:
- Three tablespoons of baking soda
- Five tablespoons of cornstarch
- Six tablespoons of your preferred Shea butter
- Two drops of essential oil (of your choice)
Mix above ingredients until they become a cream and rub it on your underarms. Any excess can be stored in a lidded container.
3. Apple cider vinegar
Apple cider vinegar provides many benefits to the body. It makes the growth of bacteria difficult because it lowers the pH levels of the body. It also does the following:
- Relieves acid reflux
- Reduces heartburn
- Regulates the sugar in the blood
When you apply ACV to your underarms, it kills the bacteria by drying up your pores. To use, simply wet a cotton ball and apply to your clean skin several times daily. The vinegar can be applied before you go to bed and it can be washed off the next morning. Then you can apply your all-natural antiperspirant or deodorant.
4. Shave your underarms
Shaving your underarms can be one of the best all-natural ways to eliminate sweat. Your underarm hair does not allow sweat to evaporate naturally. The hair also traps moisture and causes sweat to build up. Bacteria breaks down the trapped moisture, causing odor. Shaved underarms also improve the effectiveness of your antiperspirant.
5. Reduce stress
Stress can be a critical factor to your health. Sweat caused by stress is different from other types of sweat such as heat and exercise in that it is avoidable. Your state of mind represents the state of your body. When you are stressed, your body begins flight-or-fight mode. Your heartbeat elevates, your body temperature rises, and your sweat pores start to open up. To reduce stress levels, avoid situations that are stressful when possible. Meditation and breathing deeply helps relieve stress.
7. Avoid sweat-inducing foods
When food breaks down, it bursts into heat or energy. Some foods are hard to digest, and it generates heat and gives you a rush of adrenaline. This is the reason many people sweat while eating. Some of the food include the following:
- Fast foods
- Sugary foods
- Spicy foods
- Processed foods
8. Stay hydrated with water
When your temperature rises or when you are fully dehydrated, your body produces excessive sweat. Fully hydration helps your digestion and reduces sweat naturally. However, your hydration should not include drinks with caffeine. Drinks with caffeine activate the nervous system, which causes sweat. So, drink the recommended daily intake of water.
