Top Cancer Causing Foods

Cancer, in today’s time, is one of the most common diseases in the world. One of the root causes of the increase in the number of cancer patients is food habits. The type of food we consume directly affects our health and immune system. And this is especially true for kids, as their immune systems are often not as robust as adults. Therefore, it is very important to maintain a healthy and nutritious diet and avoid giving foods that may contribute to cancer in children and adults.

Given below is a list of foods that may contribute to cancer:

Microwave popcorn

We all love eating popcorn and it is considered as a healthy snack because of its high fiber content and antioxidant properties. But popcorn could be a potential cause of cancer when cooked in a microwave. The bag in which the corn kernels are filled is lined with chemicals and contains preservatives that are harmful for the lungs. So, never cook popcorn in a microwave and enjoy its nutrients by cooking it in the conventional way.

Processed meat

Another type of food that could contribute to cancer is processed meats. The presence of preservatives in such foods, called carcinogens, can affect one’s overall health and increase the chances of developing cancer. Sausages, bacon, and hot dog are some examples of processed meats.

Potato chips

The consumption of potato chips should be completely avoided as this food may contribute to cancer. Potato chips contain artificial flavors, colors, high fat content, and preservatives that are harmful for the body’s immune system.

Hydrogenated oils

Oils that are not extracted naturally are another cancer-causing food item. They are also known as vegetable oils. These hydrogenated oils contain high levels of Omega-3 fatty acids. The use of such oils increases the chances of developing various types of cancer and should be replaced by naturally extracted oils like olive oil or soya oil.

Soft drinks

These are among the top foods that could probably lead to cancer. Soft drinks or sodas contain a high amount of sugars, known as fructose, and artificial flavors, which increase the chances of developing obesity and cancer-causing cells.

Refined sugar

Foods that may contribute to cancer include foods that contain refined sugars like cakes, cookies, juices etc. Foods with high sugar content are one of the main culprits for developing cancer cells in the human body.

Processed white flour

Refined flour contains high levels of carbohydrates, which can lead to an increase in insulin levels and result in diabetes. High insulin levels might lead to the development of cancer cells too, as these cells feed and multiply because of high sugar levels present in the blood.
