Distinguishing Between Crossovers and SUVs

SUVs and crossovers happened to be one of the most sorted and looked out cars in the last few years. Their demand is more than the supply so the automobile industry is still looking for investors and new line ups to meet the demand. Until last decade SUVs were always the first choice to a family but now people want style, off-road experiences, and luxury all in one compact car.

Today, SUVs and crossover are outselling cars and for sure this is only going to outnumber in another few months. As of 2020, there are 234 models of industry-wide compact cars including SUV and crossovers. Bachelors and growing families alike lookout for crossover these days, and the SUV hasn’t fallen out of their demand revenue yet because people still love adventure and classy comfort. Let us learn the major differences between SUVs and crossovers.

Safety
In the case of low speed forward collisions, SUVs are safer due to their heavy and sturdy structure. They do not easily topple or burn a hole in your pocket too easily. If it is a serious accident like a fast speeding collision, crossovers are much better. They are designed to survive crash tests and forward-collision tests. The body is designed to withstand a surplus impact on the body. The body of the car is supposed to take the load of the impact keeping the passengers and driver safe. The high-speed collision will definitely damage the vehicle and burn your pockets but everybody will be safe inside the car and suffer much lesser injuries than those in an SUV.

Design
The body and frame will be a single piece in a crossover. Crossovers combine the features of an SUV and a hatchback or a pickup car. They have the name crossover because they blend in different styles and models of cars. Whereas an SUV has two separate pieces which are the body and frame. Since they are two parts it is easier to fix that dent, or corroded paint and not remove the whole unibody. On the other hand, a unibody structure is lighter and gives better fuel efficiency and a smoother ride, while the body and frame structure are heavier and vehicles are much stable and last longer.

Applications
The design of crossovers makes it much lighter than an SUV. The ride quality of crossover is better than an SUV while the heavy designed SUVs are made in that mode to challenge heavy-duty vehicles.

Cabin room and Cargo space
Both SUVs and crossovers have good legroom and a capacity to seat up to 5 passengers. However, a crossover has a slightly bigger cabin space: around 70 cubic feet in a crossover and around 37.5 cubic feet cargo space in SUV. This is one of the major differences between SUVs and crossovers.

Fuel efficiency
Consumer reports say that SUVs have much better fuel efficiency compared to other models, including luxury cars. The mileage is calculated by combining the city and highway mileage and converting it to percentage.
