A smart refrigerator is connected to the cloud. Depending on the kind of features it has, a smart fridge allows users to get alerts if the door of the fridge has been left open, receive and send notes and calendar entries, and even use one’s smartphone to see what is inside.

Currently, very few manufacturers manufacture smart refrigerators. At this point, only GE (under the Café brand), Samsung, and LG make smart refrigerators. Also, each brand has only a couple of models to its name with all the connected features. However, the brands are well-known for the prowess of their electronics and are reliable enough to invest in.

What smart fridges do:
It depends on the product manufactured by the company. For instance, Family Hub refrigerators by Samsung is a power-packed product, and they have the most features. It features a large display screen that lets one play music, look up recipes, watch TV, leave notes, and even look at a calendar. Most of the other smart fridges have fewer functions. However, they are still useful without being too splashy. These include letting one know if the ice is running low and receiving notifications if the door has been left open.

Since fridge manufacturers do not manufacture analogous smart and non-smart models, it is tough to point out the exact difference in the prices. Moreover, Wi-Fi connectivity is only available in the higher-end models, which command a premium price as it is. Samsung’s Family Hub refrigerator, for instance, has the biggest difference in prices since it includes a large display. The Samsung 3-door French Door non-smart fridge costs about $1,699 while the 3-door Family Hub refrigerator costs around $2,499.

With smart appliances taking over our lives, it makes sense to upgrade to a smart fridge because of its nifty features. If you’re someone who has a high-end kitchen, loves music, uses your phone to collate shopping lists, constantly keeps upgrading the food in the fridge, it would make sense for you to invest in a smart fridge.
