Top Home Hair Removal Solutions
Sweet ingredients in your pantry can be used for hair removal by virtue of their sticky nature. Herein, we will discuss a few sweeteners that are used in some of the most effective home hair removal treatments.
Sugaring
Sugar has been used in hair removal treatments since ancient times. The origin of sugaring is thought to be from ancient Egyptian and middle eastern cultures. A sugaring mixture is at room temperature and not hot. It is less harsh on the skin as it pulls out the hair and not the skin cells. It is one of the most effective home hair removal treatments since it penetrates deeper towards the hair roots than waxing does. Since there is no heat this treatment is better for sensitive skin than waxing. All you need to do it make a soft and natural paste of sugar, lemon, and water. They are heated together to about 240 degrees Fahrenheit, cooled very slightly, and transferred to a container before it hardens. It should become a malleable mixture when it cools to room temperature.
Sprinkle some powder over the area. Use a lemon size piece of the sugaring mixture and rub it between both hands to warm it up and soften it. This mixture is stretched over the skin against the hair growth direction. It is given a few seconds to penetrate into the pores and then yanked in the direction of the hair growth. This helps to ease the hair out more completely and gently. This same ball of sugaring mixture is repeatedly worked with the hands to maintain its softness and used until it loses its stretchiness. It is better to use the other hand to hold the skin taut before pulling at the sugaring mixture. This is indeed one of the most effective home hair removal treatments that are very gentle.
Honey
Honey can also be used to remove hair. A mask is made by combining one tablespoon of honey with half a tablespoon of lemon juice and applying a very thin layer on the area. This is then allowed to stay and thicken for about 20 minutes to half an hour. Wiping off the mask with a damp well wrung-out washcloth helps remove the hair. If the hair is still stubborn, a waxing cloth can be pressed on the area and pulled in the opposite direction of hair growth. Though the action is similar to waxing the skin is not subjected to heat making it one of the most effective home hair removal treatments. Rinse the area with cool water.
Homemade Waxing Mixture
Waxing involves applying hot wax to the skin and then applying a cloth over it. This cloth is then very abruptly pulled in the opposite direction of the hair growth. This rips the hair out. Store-bought waxing mixtures have preservatives and chemicals that cause irritation. You can make your own waxing mixture at home a quarter cup of honey, a cup of white sugar, and a tablespoon of lemon juice. Combine the ingredients and heat to about 110 degrees Fahrenheit (43 degrees Celsius). Cool the mixture down to a comfortable temperature before using it as you would a storebought mixture.
